Which Interior Design Path is Right for You?

Filed Under: Design Advice, Interior Design

Your home should feel like you, tell your unique story. Whether starting from a clean slate, upgrading an existing space, or designing your forever home, choosing the proper interior design support is key to avoiding costly mistakes and creating a home that truly brings you joy.

However, not all “design help” is created equal.

We break down the three main types of design support and introduce a new option that bridges the gap between simply getting something done and creating something truly beautiful.

Option 1: Full-Service, Custom Interior Design

Best for:

Homeowners investing in their forever homes, large remodels, or whole-home transformations. It is ideal for those with a budget who wish to invest in unique, special, and timeless designs, furnishings, and accents..

What it is:

An experienced, professional interior designer manages every aspect of your project from start to finish. You are hiring an artist, advocate, and project manager all in one for long-lasting comfort and joy.

What you get:

  • Deep understanding of your aesthetic, goals, lifestyle, and how you want to feel in your space.
  • Custom design plans unique to you, not a “catalog page” design.
  • Professional sourcing from exclusive vendors, makers, craftsmen, and manufacturers.
  • Coordination with architects, contractors, and artisans.
  • Every detail is curated, from furniture layouts to finishes, lighting, window treatments, art, and more.
  • A space that reflects your values, tastes, and lifestyle.

Cost: High investment, high return. Projects start at $100,000+

Timeline: Several months to a year or more.

Result: A truly personal, timeless, high-functioning 3-dimensional painting in which you can live and thrive.

Option 2: Retail “Design Services”

Best for:

More minor furnishing updates, basic styling, and refreshes with minimal customization. Great for those who want their homes to mimic a furnishings catalog page.

What it is:

Salespeople in furniture stores offering “design help” are focused on selling you the furniture and decor available through the store only, often presented as a “free” service.

What you get:

  • Advice based on store inventory and product.
  • Limited furniture options and layouts.
  • No construction, no customization, no full-room plans.
  • Design based on trends and availability, not you.

Cost: Lower cost, low return. Cost appears lower, but can be expensive in mistakes and style. Higher probability of “getting sold.”

Timeline: If items are in stock, quick turnaround, but limited in scope. Otherwise, typically a few weeks to a few months.

Result: A nice enough space, but not very personal or cohesive. Very often, it relies on trends or pieces that need to be replaced sooner rather than later.

New Middle Ground. The SLI Studio Collection: Design For You

Best for:

Style-conscious homeowners who want a well-designed, special home without the cost of full-service design. It is ideal for first-time homebuyers or anyone overwhelmed by choices or concerned about making an expensive or embarrassing mistake.

What it is:

A curated design plan from the award-winning team at Stacey Lapuk Interiors combines the beauty of professional design with the flexibility of a do-it-yourself pace and budget. All are replete with Biophilic design principles for your health, well-being, and happiness.

What you get:

  • Designer-curated room packages with timeless, joyful, and nature-inspired aesthetics.
  • Personalized selections to fit your style, budget, and home architecture.
  • Clear layout plans, furniture selections, and materials guides.
  • Trade-only resources made accessible to you.
  • Easy-to-follow implementation with no pressure.

Cost: Lower cost, higher return. A fraction of full-service design fees start at just $2,500 per room.

Timeline: 2-3 weeks for design delivery.

Result: A joyful, functional, and beautiful home that reflects you–with clarity and confidence.

Beta Bonus!

The first five rooms purchased will receive a higher level of customization during our pilot launch!
